September already??

Wow! I can't believe how fast this year is going already! We are already halfway through our first semester and moving quickly. Below you will find a few pictures of our classroom. During our first week together we read a story about a little girl that said things to others and hurt their feelings. To help the students understand that once they say something they can't take it back we did an experiment with toothpaste. The students had to squeeze all of the toothpaste out of the bottle, which they loved! But then they had to try and get it all back into the tube. They had no idea they were going to have to do this. After the experiment we talked about how you can apologize for your words (just like you can put some of the toothpaste back) but the feelings that are hurt will always be there. The kids loved it! :-)

 

We just finished our first chapter in math, addition and subtraction. The student's books come with a vocabulary game which you can see them playing below. We also have a "grab and go" math kit that the students can pull games and centers from when they finish things early. These are a great way for the students to continue practicing the 3rd grade skills even when we are done with the chapter. 

 

We have just started our science chapter on classifying animals. The students got to put together their own "backbone" to see how it moves and helps animals.
